Francis Marion University would go on to earn a 1-1 tie on the road at Western Carolina University, Friday night (Sept. 17) in women’s college soccer action.
Francis Marion moves to 2-7-1 and will conclude a brief two-match road swing through the North Carolina mountains with a 2 p.m. contest at UNC Asheville on Sunday.
Allen headed a Kiley Williams’ corner kick into the WCU goal at the 4:13 mark. It was the first career score for the York, S.C. native.
The Catamounts answered with a tying score in the 24th minute when Katie Salmons scored off an assist from Christine Kaznowski.
The Catamounts led in shots 13-10, while both teams took four corner kicks.
Allen had shots in both overtime periods, but had an attempted blocked in the 97th minute and was then high with a shot in the final minute of the match. Williams had four shots for the Patriots, including one in each half that were both stopped by WCU goalkeeper Caitlin Williams.
Williams finished with five saves, while FMU junior goalkeeper Casey Durham was only forced to make one save in 110 minutes.
