ODU men fall to Elon

NORFOLK, VA— Chris Thomas’s early first half goal helped the Phoenix of Elon defeat the Monarchs
of Old Dominion, 1-0 Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.  ODU is now 3-2, while Elon is 2-2-1.
 
Thomas’ goal came in the first two-plus minutes of the match on an assist from Mark Berlin.
 
The Monarchs outshot Elon 25-10 overall, and both had six shots on goal.  Elon’s keeper Clint Irwin
had six saves, while ODU’s Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA. ) had five.
 
Gideon Asante (Sunyani, Ghana) led ODU in shots with five, including one late in the match that hit the post. Alex De John (Marlboro, NJ.)
and Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.) each had four shot attempts on the evening.
 
The Monarchs return to action Tuesday night when they host William and Mary at 7 p.m. in the
CAA opener for both teams.
