Charlotte men fall to Campbell

BUIES CREEK, NC – Jennings Rex scored his second goal of the season for the Charlotte 49ers (3-3) but it was not enough as Charlotte falls at Campbell (1-2-2), 2-1.
Charlotte had three shots in the first half but shots by Donnie Smith, T.J. Beaulieu and Rex were either wide or stopped by Campbell’s goalkeeper Ryan Amons.
Charlotte’s Charles Rodriguez and Evan James had scoring chances early in the second half but their shots were either stopped by Campbell’s Amons or went wide.
Campbell scored the game’s first goal when Khalil Johnson scored his first of two goals in the game when he blasted the ball just outside the box into the back of the net in the 60th minute.
In the 68th minute, James headed the ball just wide of the goal for the 49ers.
Johnson gave Campbell a 2-0 lead when he chipped Charlotte’s keeper Patrick Eavenson with a scoring shot off an assist from Brian Urioste in the 75th minute.
Charlotte put Campbell under a great deal of pressure over the final ten minutes. Rex had two shots and Beaulieu had a shot that went wide.
Charlotte made the final score, 2-1, when Rex scored his second goal of the season on a breakaway in the 89th minute.
Charlotte’s Andres Cuero whipped a curling shot from the left side of the field that went just wide of the left goal post with 51 seconds left in regulation.
Charlotte finished the game with an 11-6 advantage in shots. Rex led the 49ers with four shots. Evan James and T.J. Beaulieu tallied two shots apiece.
Charlotte returns home for the first of three straight home games when they face South Carolina at Transamerica Field, Saturday, September 25 at 7 pm.
