South Florida women draw with West Virginia

TAMPA - 110 minutes was not enough to decide an outcome as the the University of South Florida women's soccer team (6-2-2) and the West Virginia Mountaineers (4-4-1) played to a scoreless tie Sunday afternoon at Dick Deslk Stadium in Morgantown, W. Va.
With the two teams combining for 40 shots in the match, 19 for USF, the story line would turn to the goal keepers. Junior Nicole McClure was superb between the pipes for USF making six saves on the afternoon, good enough forĀ third shutout of the season.
The shutout lowered her goals against average to an impressive 0.68, which is among the best in the BIG EAST.
The Bulls offensive attack was unable to sneak one by West Virginia keeper Kerri Butler, who had five saves on the afternoon. The Bulls had their share of opportunities with Chelsea Klotz leading the way with eight shots on the day with two being on goal.
Klotz was one of seven Bulls to play over 100 minutes in the match.
After being out shot during regulation, the Bulls would become the aggressor in overtime taking seven shots to WVU's five with three of the Bulls shots being on goal.
Overall, the match was a physical one with the two teams being whistled for 31 fouls combine with four yellow cards assessed, two to each team.
The Bulsl will continue their season long five-match road trip with a trip the nation's captial to take on Georgetown on Oct. 1 and then to Philadelphia to take on Villanova on Oct. 3.
