South Florida men beat Rhode Island

Updated: September 30, 2010
TAMPA (Sept. 29, 2010) – University of South Florida All-America goalkeeper Jeff Attinella set a new school record for shutouts in a career as he helped guide USF to a 2-0 win over Rhode Island at the USF Soccer Stadium Wednesday night.

The Bulls (5-2-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) put things away early and made things easy on their senior net minder scoring two goals in a span of less than three minutes as two players – Bernardo Anor and Javed Mohammed – accounted for all the scoring.

Anor would take possession of a corner kick from Mohammed, which found its way through the 18-yard box, and bury it into the back of the net in the 10th minute.

Then in just over the 13th minute of play - on almost the exact same play – Anor would take another Mohammed corner and beat Rams keeper Peyton Warwick.

On the night, the Bulls would dominate play outshooting Rhode Island 14-6, with seven of the shots coming on net.

Attinella, a native of Safety Harbor, Fla., would have a relatively easy night recording two saves in his record setting win.

USF will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. when it butts heads with Syracuse in its BIG EAST home opener.
