Updated: October 2, 2010
CLEMSON, S.C. –  Clemson’s Riley Sumpter scored a second-half goal to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 victory against the visiting Saint Louis Billikens Friday in non-conference men’s soccer action at Riggs Field.

SLU, playing in its first of six straight matches on the road, moves to 2-3-2. The Billikens begin Atlantic 10 Conference play next weekend with games at Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. Clemson improves to 2-5-1 with the win.

Following a scoreless first half, Sumpter tallied on an assist from Nick Burton at 75:04 to hand the Tigers the win.

“We played hard and displayed a lot of fight and spirit, but we were unable to get the result,” Billiken head coach Mike McGinty said. “We now begin preparations for A-10 play and look forward to getting back onto the field next Friday at Duquesne.”

SLU faces the Dukes at 6 p.m. (CT) next Friday. The Billikens then head to Olean, N.Y., on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup at St. Bonaventure.
