NEWTON, Mass. – Junior forward Edvin Worley registered a career-high two goals and one assist and sophomore forward Charlie Rugg netted the decisive goal in the 27th minute to lead No. 18 Boston College to a 3-0 non-conference win over Holy Cross before 382 fans at the Newton Campus Field on Tuesday.

Worley and Rugg combined for the game’s first goal – the decisive score – at 26:37.  Worley then doubled the Eagle lead just more than two minutes later – at 28:49 – and concluded the scoring with a header at 37:06.

Rugg opened the scoring off a Worley feed, connecting with his right foot from 17 yards for his fifth goal of the season.

Shortly thereafter, Worley one-timed an Amit Aburmad cross past Crusader sophomore goalkeeper Evan Polanik (four saves) to lift the host Eagles to a 2-0 lead.  Sophomore midfielder Kyle Bekker also assisted on the play.

The Jensen Beach, Fla., resident then netted his second goal of the half in the 38th minute, connecting on sophomore Colin Murphy’s feed with a header from close range past a diving Polanik.  Senior defender Myles Gerraty, who recorded his first collegiate start at fullback, also assisted on the score.

BC outshot the visiting Crusaders 10-1 in the first half and 16-2 in the contest.

Sophomore goalkeeper Justin Luthy recorded one save in 77:43 to earn the victory, his sixth of the season and the 19th of his career.  Senior Ayotunde Ogunbiyi played the final 12:17.

Holy Cross sophomore Shane Regan attempted the team’s first shot of the match in the 43rd minute, a long bid toward goal that Luthy pushed over bar.

Next, Boston College will host No. 3 North Carolina in Atlantic Coast Conference action on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
