Boston University women beat Binghamton

Updated: October 18, 2010
VESTAL, N.Y. - The Boston University women’s soccer team clinched at least a share of the America East regular season title as it defeated Binghamton, 4-0, backed by goals from graduate student Lisa Kevorkian, junior Jessica Luscinski and freshman Emma Clark.

The Terriers tied the record for consecutive victories with its ninth straight, which was previously set in the 2008 season. Additionally, Kevorkian scored her 12th goal of the season and 28th point, which moves her into third place among single-season leaders for goals and fifth for points. Luscinski’s 17th career goal gave her sole possession of 10th place for career goals and career points.

The defense was stellar as it stretched its shutout streak to 828:02 minutes, which now spans 10 games and dates back to Sept. 12. With nine consecutive shutouts, BU’s streak is among the longest in NCAA history, as it is currently in a 12-way tie for 12th place.

The goalkeeping duo of freshman Kelly King and junior Alice Binns was put to work as each netminder was forced to make three saves apiece to combine for the blank sheet.

On the offensive end, Kevorkian opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as she unloaded a shot to the lower right corner of the net. Twelve minutes later, she struck again as freshman Kylie Strom crossed the ball in from the left side and Kevorkian bicycle-kicked it into the netting from six yards out.

The game would remain 2-0 for most of the second half until Clark netted her fifth of the season at 86:04. After a great individual effort down the end line, Clark slotted it into an empty net. Strom assisted on the play. Luscinski found the back of the net with just two ticks left on the scoreboard as she blasted a shot from 22 yards out to the top right corner.

With its four-game road stretch complete, BU returns to the confines of Nickerson Field on Thursday evening when it hosts Albany at 7 p.m. The Terriers close out their regular season with Maine on Sunday (Oct. 24) at home at 1 p.m.
