OMAHA, Neb. – The Missouri State men’s soccer team (7-6-2, 4-1-1) saw its 12-game unbeaten streak in regular season conference play come to an end with a 2-0 loss at No. 10 Creighton (12-3-1, 5-0-1) in Omaha, Neb. on Wednesday night.

 

Creighton went ahead in the 15th minute on a Missouri State own goal.  The Bluejays doubled the lead in the 76th minute on a header goal by Sergio Castillo.

 

The Bears played a better second half and had a few chances to cut into the lead late.  But despite earning three corners in the second half, MSU only generated three shots in the period and the lone shot on net in the match.

 

Heath Melugin and Eric Martin recorded two shots apiece.  Paul Paradise tallied the only other shot for the Bears.

 

Senior goalkeeper Alex Riggs made four saves to keep the match close.  The goals were the first surrendered by Riggs to the Bluejays since the 2008 MVC Tournament.

 

Creighton is the fourth Bears’ opponent of the season to spend time in the NSCAA top-10.  In September, MSU faced current No. 1 Louisville, current No. 5 SMU and then No. 2 Tulsa.  The Bluejays are the first of these teams to shut out Missouri State.

 

Missouri State will return home for the regular season finale on Saturday, November 6, against SIU Edwardsville for the “Living Our Legacy” game presented by Verizon.  The military-theme affair will feature pregame and halftime ceremonies to honor active military and veterans.  The event will help raise money for the Ozarks Honor Flight and the first 400 fans to the 7:00 p.m. match will receive a free t-shirt.
