Saint Mary's men lose to LMU

Los Angeles, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to division leading Loyola Marymount on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles. After a scoreless first-half, LMU scored goals in the 57th and 82nd minutes to put away the Gaels.
With the loss, SMC drops to 10-7-1, 6-5 West Coast Conference, while LMU improves to 12-5-2, 8-2-1 WCC.
Loyola Marymount outshot SMC 15-7, including a 10-2 edge on shots on goal. Saint Mary's keeper Doug Herrick had a busy first-half, recording seven of his 10 saves in the first 45 minutes. Herrick would finish the afternoon with 10 saves and allowed two scores.
LMU's Jack McCormack recorded the shutout win with two saves in 90 minutes.
After the scoreless first-half, LMU's David Ponce scored what would be the game winner on a header off a cross pass in the 57th minute. In the 82nd minute, Phil Da Silva scored a goal on a cut and angle shot.
SMC attempted four of its seven shots in the second half, while LMU attempted seven of its 15 shots in the second stanza. LMU had the edge in corner kicks 8-6 and fouls 11-10.
For the Gaels, Dylan Leslie and Jordan Grider took two shots apiece, with one on goal. Erik Rivas, Jared Medina and Jose Cabeza attempted shots.
Saint Mary's is back in action on Sunday, November 14 when it faces San Diego to wrap-up conference action.
