Traditional powers dominate boys poll
Fans versed in high school soccer's traditional halls of power won't find much to be surprised about in Tuesday's NSCAA national boys poll.
After snapping the state record for consecutive wins at 57 (a record they set themselves), St. Benedict's deservedly powers forward as the nation's overall No. 1. The mission now becomes snapping the national record of 74 set nearly 30 years ago.
Jesuit, led by California's all-time winningest high school coach in Paul Rose, moved up to No. 2 after Maryland's DeMatha dropped from the second spot to out of the poll entirely this week. Landon ended DeMatha's 64-game regular season winning streak last week with a shock 1-0 win that finished late. Wake Forest(m) commit Zach Fingerhut scored the winner on a penalty after a handball in the 77th minute to shake up the top five this week.
