Kitchen will lead freshman at Akron
February 7, 2010
We continue our look at some of the best men’s soccer programs that have procured top incoming freshman thus far:

AKRON(m)

After making the national title game, the Zips have attracted some of the finest players in the nation.

U.S. National Team staple Perry Kitchen will be joining the program and bringing with him an incredible amount of experience and defensive prowess. A longtime captain, he won’t be a typical freshman but a natural leader who should help make a seamless experience for some of the other first-year players.

Three other Top 100 studs are also arriving, in Martin Ontiveros, Reinaldo Brenes and Richard Diaz Jr. Brenes and Ontiveros are IMG Academy teammates while Diaz Jr. Arrives from the Virginia Rush and will bring speed - lots of speed.

Gabriel Genovesi and goalkeeper Andrian McAdams will also be joining Akron.

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON(m)

A program continuing on the rise, and in stiff competition within the Southern Conference, College of Charleston has had a good offseason.

Two players in particular should make a world of difference right off the bat: Anthony Kattreh and Andrew Craven.

Kattreh will instantly bring consistency to the midfield and is adept at breaking up attacks while Craven is a fast attacking player with a penchant for running at defenders.

Joey De Mare is another good prospect who should help to push the program forward.

WAKE FOREST(m)

Always a heavyweight recruiter and contender, we’ve come to expect great things from the Demon Deacons incoming class. Their latest will likely deliver.

Five players from our Top 100 list will grace the campus in the fall including Jared Watts, Ryan Metts, Kyle Emerson, Ross Tomaselli and Justin Orden.

That would be sufficient if it completed the class, but throw striker Jonny Torres into the mix and you’ve got a scary group.

HARVARD(m)

The class of the Ivy league last season, Harvard will be more than happy with their fresh faces.

Two Top 100 players highlight the group in Kyle Henderson and Joseph Kearney. Henderson, of Marin FC, has great size and physical ability as a central midfielder. Kearney, on the other hand, is an L.A. Galaxy fullback who will bring strength and recovery to the back line.
