Club Player Rankings Spotlight: 2029 Girls
The winter update to the Girls Club Soccer Player Rankings finished last week with a refresh of the class of 2029.
It remains early for the current freshman class, but several players have established them as promising players for the next level.
Get to know five players from the Class of 2029 Player Rankings.
Angelica Alzugaray, Cincinnati United Premier – No. 2
While Loradana Paletta is the clear top player in the 2011 age group, Alzugaray shouldn’t be overlooked. A central midfielder for the Girls Academy squad, she has benefited from her side also having a prominent boys program; in December, she traveled to Arizona and held her own competing for Cincinnati’s MLS NEXT squad. She looks primed to be an impact player at the next level as her development continues.
Marley Skalski, WNY Flash – No. 9
Former Upstate NY star Linda Ullmark recently turned pro out of North Carolina, a pathway that Skalski could end up following if she stays healthy and continues to improve. As a freshman this past fall at St. Mary’s, she was a star: bagging 43 goals and 25 assists, she scored the game-winning goal in the High School state championship for her division. A back-of-the-shoulder runner, she picked up where she left off in her first foray into club action, scoring four times and adding an assist playing up with the 2010 WNY side.
Amada Rodriguez, Slammers FC HB Koge – No. 50
While she’s yet to earn a call-up to the full youth national team, Rodriguez is building a case as one of the top outside back (specifically on the left) around the country. She has the defensive motor and technical ability to make significant contributions on both sides of the ball. A freshman at Southern California powerhouse Harvard-Westlake, she looks like she will continue to rise in the rankings in the not too distant future.
Trinity Bledsoe, String Royal – No. 64
The talented attacker enjoyed a strong performance for her squad at the recent national event in Florida. Along with that, she is in the middle of her freshman season at Westlake Academy. She recently scored seven goals in a game for her high school side and typically plays up against 2010 opposition at the club level. An attacking midfielder who finds good spots and impacts the game with her nose for goal, she continues to show consistency at a high level.
Blair Bickerstaff, Michigan Hawks – No. 108
Having wrapped up their season in December, the Hawks stitched together an impressive campaign. Winners of the Midwest Conference, they remain a top team in the age group. What will make this season interesting is the format of the postseason: due to the men’s World Cup being hosted in the United States, the ECNL Playoffs and Finals will be held from July 11-18 in Redmond. Bickerstaff, an attacking talent out wide, will look to be fit and firing with the rest of her squad once again.
