GA U19 Champions Cup: HTX Penalty Glory
It was not the most exciting final, but HTX ultimately defeated TopHat Gold in penalty kicks to win the U19 GA Champions Cup trophy.
The first 20 minutes of the match offered a glimpse of what was to come as the high Florida winds played just as large a role in breaking down quality attacking moves as did the defenses themselves.
Victoria Saah in goal, Avery Stanley at fullback, and Sarah Houston in holding midfield shined for TopHat defensively. The center-back trio of Gisele Kehres, Lilah Katz, and Ella Davis was formidable for HTX.
That 0-0 stalemate lasted 110 minutes of regulation and overtime, with Saah keeping a clean sheet for TopHat, as did the duo of Patricia Staton and Savannah Epting for HTX. Staton ultimately made a single save in the penalty shootout, allowing a conversion from Jasmine Diaz to win the championship.
Player of the Match: Patricia Staton, HTX
