Gatorade Player of the Year Quon joins US U18s
May 30, 2009
Just as the US U20 Women’s Team will be heading out of the Home Depot Center after a week-long camp, the U18s will take their place as coach Dave Chesler is bringing in 24 players for the second gathering in as many months.
But this time the 18s will have Carson, California, all to themselves, as they shared a dual camp with the 17s in April – which made for a competitive environment.
This group is mostly made up of 1992s, which will make up the core of the player pool that will compete for spots on the USA’s 2012 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Team.
Rachel Quon will be around just as she was recently named the 2008-09 Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year. Quon, a 5-foot-3 defender, joins a list that includes last year’s winner Teresa Noyola, Amy Rodriguez and Aly Wagner, all of whom have captured this prestigious award.
The week’s events will include scrimmages against Pali Blues and Ajax as a host of the top prospects in the country get together once again.
