On the heels of soccer’s National Signing Day, Homegrown Watch is back with another round of analysis on some of the brightest pro prospects funneling through MLS academies. A top national team prospect chooses college in lieu of a Homegrown contract that wasn’t extended, an Impact U18 star looks toward the USL PRO ranks and more.

For the Impact’s entire academy, but specifically its U18 program, the 2013-14 season was special. Its first ever season in operation in the Development Academy was 2012-13, and the Impact predictably struggled. After missing the playoffs that year, the Impact redoubled their efforts in the offseason and finished third in the Eastern Conference during the regular season. That was only a prelude to a postseason run to the DA Finals in Los Angeles, making the Impact one of the nation’s last four programs standing.
