Champions League Preview
U19
NorCal NPL Title Contenders: Sacramento United and Santa Clara Sporting
Only two teams in the U19 Boys Champions League still have a chance to win the 2013-14 NorCal NPL Title. Sacramento United enters the weekend in first place, two points ahead of 2012-13 NorCal NPL Champion Santa Clara Sporting. On Saturday, Sacramento United faces fourth place Tri Valley while Santa Clara Sporting faces third place EBU Bay Oaks. If both teams win, it sets up a showdown on Sunday in a match for the NorCal NPL title. EBU currently sits in third place with eight points and Tri Valley in fourth place with seven.
U17
NorCal NPL Title Contenders: Placer United, Atletico Santa Rosa, Livermore Fusion, PAC San Jose, and Juventus
Placer United comes into the Spring Showcase in first place in an extremely tight U17 Boys Champions League Division with five teams still in contention to win the NorCal NPL Title. Placer United can win the NPL Title with two wins but play two tough matches this weekend facing second place Livermore Fusion on Saturday and fourth place PAC San Jose on Sunday. Livermore Fusion, currently tied for second place, will need to beat Placer United Saturday and then beat Marin FC on Sunday. Additionally, they will need to make up goal differential on Atletico Santa Rosa who is tied with them in second Place. Atletico Santa Rosa can win the NPL Title with wins over PAC San Jose and Juventus CRS, but will also need Placer to slip up in one of their final two matches. PAC San Jose sits four points behind Placer with seven points but still have an outside chance to win the league. They will need to win both matches this weekend and hope for Placer and Livermore to draw on Saturday.
U16
NorCal NPL Title Contenders: Monarcas, Placer United, Almaden FC, and Diablo FC
With four teams still having a realistic shot to win the NorCal NPL Championship, the U16 Champions League Division Title looks like it will come down to the final day. Monarcas enters the weekend in first place with 11 points and can win the title with wins over De Anza Force Blue and Placer United. Placer United is currently in second place and can win the league if they beat Almaden FC on Saturday and first place Monarcas Academy on Sunday. Third place Almaden FC wins the league if they can beat Placer United and ACC Mavericks this weekend and if Monarcas Academy fails to get three points. Diablo FC still has an outside shot to win the NPL Title but will need to win both matches and hope for teams ahead of them to drop points.
U15
NorCal NPL Title Contenders: Davis Legacy, De Anza Force, Monarcas, Stockton Storm, and Ballistic United
Five teams are still in contention for the 2013-14 NorCal NPL Title. Davis Legacy currently leads the pack with 11 points and can clinch the top spot with wins over Ballistic United and Monarcas Academy. De Anza Force Blue is in second place needing wins over Monarcas Academy and Sacramento United. They will also need Davis to drop points in one of its matches. Monarcas are in third place, but face both the teams ahead of them in the standings, meaning they will win the league with two wins. Stockton Storm and Ballistic United are tied for fourth place, still having an outside chance to win the league, but they will each need to win both games and hope for teams ahead of them to drop points.
U14
NorCal NPL Title Contenders: Santa Rosa United, EBU Bay Oaks, Odyssey South, and Sacramento United
Four teams are still in contention for the 2013-14 NorCal NPL Title with Santa Rosa United currently in first place. Santa Rosa United faces two teams that can still catch them when they face Sacramento United and Odyssey South this weekend. EBU Bay Oaks, Odyssey South, and Sacramento United are currently tied for second place with 10 points each. EBU Bay Oaks can only win the league with wins over Heritage and Monarcas and if Santa Rosa is held to only two points in their final two matches. Odyssey South will need to beat Monarcas and Santa Rosa and also make up some goal differential in case EBU wins both of their matches. Sacramento United is in a similar position, needing two wins and improved goal differential in case of a three-way tie.
