After a turbulent start to the MLS is Back tournament, the Portland Timbers were crowned champions on Tuesday night, holding on for a 2-1 win against “host” team Orlando City SC.
It was the first opportunity for young, domestic players to get a taste of competitive action in MLS since March. And while teams deployed varying strategies of actually providing opportunities for Under-23 American or Canadian players, several saw the field.
