See TeamRank National Championship rankings criteria

The TeamRank National Championship is a unique rankings setup that only includes team performance from the current season. It begins with events in August and ends with final events in July, at which point a new competition begins and the slate is again wiped clean. Each ranking is only for that August to July season.

You may not think of Vermont as a cultural melting pot, but the U18 Synergy FC team provides a pretty diverse representation.

“We have an international team,” said coach Hugh Brown. “We have kids from Bosnia, and African countries as a part of the Refuge Resettlement Program (a state program that helps newly arrived refugees). It’s really a very tight nit group that has been together since U12.”

Fitting of their name, the Synergy bonds together through countless games and lots of travel.

Brown said the team journeyed to just about every major tournament it could enter last season, at one point heading out of town for 14 weekends in a row.

The team played its high school soccer in the fall and is gearing up to begin another run at the end of the month.

The players leading that charge will be goalkeeper Amir Pasic, a dedicated competitor who leads through example. Midfielder Elia Louis arrived from the Congo a few years back and didn’t speak a word of English – now he’s one of the team’s best communicators.

Dynamic attackers Keagan McDonnell and Paul Bianchi as well as left back Nathaniel Horton are also key components to a talented group.

Elsewhere in the boys’ rankings you’ll find U13 Stars of Massachusetts, U14 FC Blazers, U16 New England Aztec and U17 Bridgeport AYSO.

On the girls’ side: U13 Mass Premier Soccer, U14 FSA United, U15  Stars of Massachusetts, U16 SoccerPlus CT, U17 South Central SC and U18 SoccerPlus CT are featured teams.
