U17 MNT intrasquad scrimmage not made for media

GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA – Saturday night’s intrasquad scrimmage for the U17 Men’s National Team was definitely not a made-for-media event.

Wilmer Cabrera’s squad is here training at Bryan Soccer Park in conjunction with the USSF Development Academy. The 30 players on hand were not wearing numbers so college coaches, fans and yours truly alike were struggling to place a name with every face on the field.

I can be sure that the team wearing red jerseys won 2-0 over the team in blue. Carlos Martinez scored a first-half goal on transition, and Dominick Sarle struck the shot for the 2nd goal midway through the 2nd half. Sarle’s shot was touched near the goalline by Victor Chavez, but it was going in anyway (although Chavez’s touch begs the question why it wasn’t ruled out for offside).

The match was a little choppy, with a lot of play in midfield as possession was fiercely contested, with not too many good chances created.

One chance that didn’t result in a goal was in the first half when Jack McInerney was put in on goal for the Blue team, but Earl Edwards made a superb stretch save to keep the ball out of the net.

Martinez, Zachary Herold, Sebastian Lletget and Sean Davis had impressive shifts during the scrimmage.

The team will close out the training camp with a match Monday morning against PDL side Carolina Dynamo. We will have LIVE updates on TopDrawerSoccer.com throughout the match.

A reasonable facsimile of the starting lineups follows:

Red

GK: Earl Edwards

D: Perry Kitchen, Zac Herold, Eriq Zavaleta, (not sure about left back)

M: Carlos Martinez, Brian Duran, Jared Watts, Nick Palodichuk

F: Juan Agudelo, Victor Chavez

Blue

D: Jordan McCrary, Boyd Okwuonu, Emilio Orozco, Tyler Polak

M: Luis Gil, Sebastian Lletget, Joe Shinsky

(and I know, that’s only 10)

(Sean Davis and Andrew Craven were two of the subs for this team).

Other players in the camp who may have been in the match: Michael Ambrose, Marquez Fernandez, Alfred Koroma, George Malki, Erik Stephenson, Riley Wolfe
