The U.S. coughed up a late equalizer and settled for a 2-2 draw against Honduras on Sunday night in the fourth game from Group A play at the 2015 U17 CONCACAF Championship.

The host side took the lead in the 16th minute when Victor Matamoros put Honduras up. The U.S. responded behind the brilliance of Josh Perez (unattached) and Luca de la Torre (Fulham). Perez provided the assist and de la Torre’s ingenuity crafted the equalizer when he rolled home his first goal of the event.

Perez put the U.S. on top when he punched home a cross from Haji Wright that ricocheted off a couple of legs. It was Perez’s fourth goal of the tournament.

The U.S. looked like it was on its way to clinching the berth to the World Cup, but the visitors cracked under the pressure late and could not hold off the onslaught from Honduras. It was David Sanchez’s shoulder that put the equalizer into the net.

The U.S. remains in first in Group A with 10 points and only one game remaining. Honduras sits in second with eight points and Jamaica is third with seven points. U.S. plays Jamaica on Wednesday. The winner of the group earns an automatic berth to the World Cup.
