BLUE DIVISION

With all 14U Girls teams still having three games to play, no team is out of the hunt for a top-two finish and berth to the US Youth Soccer National Championships. That is especially true in the 14U Blue Division, where just one team — CDA Premier 04 (KY) — managed to win its first four games, and three points separate second place from sixth. CDA is a clear favorite heading into the games in Las Vegas, but that can all change after the first day of play.

Michigan Jaguars 04 Green (MI) and SDFC Yellow (NJ) each sit just behind CDA with seven points each. Both teams will be looking to grab victories on the first day of play to make sure they stay within striking distance of the leaders. SDFC will be hoping to lean on its 2017 National Championships experience where they finished in second place.

CDA’s undefeated record will be put on the line against the second-place finisher in last year’s National Championships when they face SDFC in the first day of play. With a win, CDA would punch its ticket to Frisco having earned enough points to guarantee at least a top-two finish. If SDFC can pull off the win, it will be just two points back and open the door for a thrilling last two days of gameplay. SDFC will be fighting an uphill battle, as CDA boasts the best goal differential in the age group and is the only team with double-digit goals (11) through the first four games.

RED DIVISION

The 14U Red Division has two teams — Nationals Union 04 Black (MI) and Arlington SA (VA) — that are sitting at the top looking down at the competition. Nationals and Arlington both left North Carolina with perfect 4-0-0 records and now have a six-point separation between themselves and the third place team. The two sides each boast matching eight goals for while allowing just one against. The competition will need to be up to the task to both stop the goals from coming and breaking through two tough defensive lines.

It is going to be a tough task for anyone to catch up to the leaders, but Beach FC 04 (CA-S) sits just six points back and any slip up by the leaders will open the door for the Cal South side. Beach may regret dropping points in three ties in North Carolina, as it has to face both Nationals Union and Arlington in Las Vegas.

March 16, Beach FC 04 (CA-S) vs. Arlington SA (VA)

This game could be the only chance any team truly has of catching up to the leaders. If Beach pulls off the upset, the Cal South side will be just three points back of the Arlington and hold a very important tiebreaker in head-to-head. Even if it gets the win, Beach will need some help from the other teams in the division and most likely need a win against Nationals, as well. Arlington will lean on its stout defense that has allowed just one goal through four games. A win for the Virginia team would guarantee it a spot in the National Championships so expect high intensity right out of the gate.
