"I am very happy to stay at the best club in the world", de la Fuente said in a statement. "It has always been my dream to play for the first team, and that is why I want to stay here - to try to achieve it."
Originally born in Miami, de la Fuente moved to Barcelona when he was 10 years old. He joined the FC Barcelona U13B team during the 2013/14 season, and has won league titles with the U15B (2015/16), U15A (2016/17), U19B ( 2017/18) and U19A teams (2019/20). His new deal runs through 2022, with a pair of club options. The contract's buyout clause sits at €50 million and will go up to €100 million should he earn promotion to the first team.
The longtime U.S youth national team player competed at the U20 World Cup in Poland with the United States, starting all five games during the team's run to the quarterfinals. Born in 2001, he is eligible for the U20 World Cup cycle in 2021.
