Big Green Fall to Texas Longhorns, 2-0

September 10, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas - The Dartmouth women's soccer team (0-2-0) fell to Texas, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Texas' Mike A Myers Soccer Stadium. The game was nationally televised on the Longhorn Network and was Dartmouth's lone television contest this season.

The Big Green had several players involved on the offensive side of the ball. Ally Dutton, (Granite Bay, Calif.) Aurelia Solomon (Washington D.C.), Emma Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) and Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) each posted one shot while Tatiana Saunders (Rye, N.Y.) made four saves on the afternoon.

In the first half, both teams had scoring opportunities early. Dutton tallied the first shot of the game for either team in the second minute of action. After getting behind the Texas defense, Dutton fired a shot that went just wide of the goal. Texas responded with a shot just minutes later that Saunders scooped up to keep the game tied at 0-0.

The Longhorns went into the break with a 1-0 advantage after scoring a goal just minutes before halftime. Vanessa Ibewuike connected with a ball in front of the Dartmouth net that was just outside of Saunders reach to give the Longhorns the lead.

Dartmouth picked it up offensively in the second half registering three shots but couldn't find a way to slip a ball behind Texas goalkeeper, Alexa Gaul, who made three saves on the afternoon. Texas' Hannah Higgins capped the scoring in the 84th minute of play to give the Longhorns the 2-0 win.

Dartmouth kicks off the 2011 home slate on Thursday (Sept. 8) when they welcome regional foe, Vermont to Burnham Field. Kickoff between the Big Green and Catamounts is set for 7 p.m.
