Dartmouth Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 2OT Contest at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate used a goal in the 109th minute of the second overtime session to upend the Dartmouth women's soccer team, 2-1, on Tuesday at Colgate's Van Doren Field.

The Raiders took advantage of a free kick just outside of the Dartmouth (2-5-0) 18-yard line.  Maddie Malone sent a shot past Big Green goalkeeper, Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) to end a nearly 36 minute stalemate between the two squads.

Freshman forward Tasha Wilkins (Portland, Ore.) picked up her team-leading second goal of the season and added another shot on goal. Sophomore midfielder Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) and junior midfielder Emma Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) also added shots on goal for the Big Green. Senior forward Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) also picked her first point of the season with an assist while Hogan made three saves in her first overtime contest of the season.

In the first overtime session, the Big Green had the upper hand on the offensive side of the ball posting one shot on goal while also registering a corner kick while keeping the Raiders without an attempt at the Dartmouth goal.   

Entering the second half notched at 0-0 for the third time this season, Dartmouth broke into the scoring column in the 56th minute of action. O'Dea dribbled up the middle of the Colgate defense and found Wilkins who put the ball just behind Colgate goalkeeper, Ashley Walsh to give Dartmouth the early advantage.

The Big Green almost took a two-goal advantage in the 66th minute after Brush got in behind the Colgate defense forcing Chelsea Roche to make a defensive team save to keep the ball out of the net.

Colgate tied the game at, 1-1, in the 68th minute with a goal from Alyssa Manoogian and despite attempts from both teams to end the game in regulation, the Big Green headed to their second overtime contest of the season.

The Raiders and Big Green battled to a scoreless tie after the first half of action. Both sides had scoring opportunities with the Raiders holding the upper hand on offensive chances recoding nine first half shots to only two Dartmouth shots.

Dartmouth will stay on the road as it heads to Providence, R.I., for its Ivy League opener against Brown on Sunday (Sept. 25). Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at Brown's Cliff Stevenson Field. Big Green fans can follow along with livestats, live video (fee) and live audio at Dartmouthsports.com.
