Dorado, D’Angelo Claim MAAC Weekly Honors

October 9, 2017

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women’s Soccer sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Dorado has been named the Wilson MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and freshman striker Darby D’Angelo has been tabbed the conference’s Rookie of the Week. The duo led the Saints to a perfect 2-0 record last week which featured home victories over Marist and Saint Peter’s.

Dorado earns MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season to tie Monmouth’s Amanda Knaub for the conference lead. The duo has now combined to capture six of the MAAC’s first eight Defensive Player of the Week Awards this season. Dorado previously was heralded as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first two weeks this season on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28.

Dorado’s three MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors also ties the program single-season record set by Laura Ettinger ’11 during the 2008 campaign. Additionally, the sophomore now stands just two weekly honors shy of Ettinger’s program career record of five MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Awards.

Dorado posted a miniscule 0.45 goals against average to compliment a .923 save percentage and 12 total saves in two matches last week. On Wednesday, the local product from nearby Guilderland, New York stopped eight shots in the Saints’ 2-1 double overtime triumph over rival Marist. She then recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season Saturday with four saves in Siena’s 5-0 shutout of Saint Peter’s.

Dorado has both started and appeared in 13 of the Saints’ first 14 matches this fall, and ranks second in the MAAC in save percentage (.831) and third in shutouts (four).

D’Angelo tallied three points on a game-winning goal and an assist over two matches last week. On Wednesday, the freshman scored the golden goal in the 107th minute of Siena’s key double overtime triumph over the Red Foxes. She followed up that performance by adding a primary assist in the Saints’ victory over the Peacocks Saturday. The Deansboro, New York native also put all four of her shots on target during the week.

D’Angelo has appeared in all 14 matches during her freshman campaign, making 12 starts. She’s totaled eight points on two goals to go along with four assists which is currently tied for ninth most in the MAAC.

Winners of four straight, Dorado, D’Angelo and Siena return to action Wednesday for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Niagara.
