MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's soccer team used a pair of goals from Emily LaRue en route to a 4-1 victory over Jackson State University in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action Friday night.

"I am really pleased about the result in tonight's match," Alabama State head coach Jodie Smith said. "We struggled a bit in the first half by creating opportunities, but didn't take advantage of them. Alabama State (8-7, 6-2 SWAC), who has won five of their seven home matches, scored first as Teaggan Ilela knocked home her third goal of the season on a pass from Lexi Krieger in the 23rd minute. Jackson State (2-12-2, 2-3-2 SWAC) was able to answer in the 29th minute to equalize the match heading into intermission.

After a yellow card was issued to Jackson State for a foul in the box, Inma Martinez scored her sixth goal of the season from the penalty mark in the 47th minute for a 2-1 lead. Then LaRue took over the match in a span of 37 seconds for the Lady Hornets.

She scored her first goal of the season in the 69th minute to give Alabama State a 3-1 lead, before scoring again 37 seconds later for the final margin.
