Iona WSOC Falls At Wagner, 1-0

			STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Iona College women's soccer team fell to 1-1 on the early season following a 1-0 loss to Wagner Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field. The Gaels were done in by a 34th minute goal by the Seahawks.
Wagner controlled the offense tempo early, opening up a 9-2 advantage on shots. On their tenth shot, the Seahawks broke through for the gamewinner. A free kick by Jessica Mouradian found the foot of Megan Fritz, who put it across for her first goal of the season.
The Gaels had opporunities to score the equalizer in the second half, putting four shots on goal, but were unable to get one past Wagner keeper Katie Marcy.
Freshman forward Charlotte Stuart led the Maroon & Gold with three shots in the contest. Overall, Iona was outshot by the Seahawks 18-9.  Graduate goalkeeper Lauren Ferris made four saves for Iona, while Marcy finished with five stops for Wagner.
The Gaels return to action on Friday, Aug. 29 when they host Sacred Heart in their home opener at Mazzella Field. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm.
