BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After scoring the game-tying goal early in the second half, the Lipscomb women’s soccer team could not stop a late charge from Western Kentucky in a 2-1 loss Sunday in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Lady Bisons end the nonconference portion of the season 3-4-1. The Lady Toppers improved their record to 2-3-4.

“It was a great college soccer game,” Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “Both teams battled hard and played some very nice soccer.

“I’m very pleased with our effort and the creative attacking soccer we played today. I think we continue to grow as a team and have improved each and every week.”

Western Kentucky got on the scoreboard in the 38thminute as Chandler Clark scored on a header from a corner kick off the foot of Chrissy Tchoula.

Lipscomb knotted the game at 1-1 in the 60th minute as junior forward Baylee Linnell buried her shot into the net. Freshmen Ellen Lundy and Alesondra Colbert connected their passes for the double assist.

This was the fifth time this season that Linnell and Lundy connected with each other for a goal.

The game-winning goal for the Lady Toppers came in the 84th minute as Alanna Clancey got in behind the defense and struck a 15 yard shot into the net.

The Purple and Gold had opportunities to get another goal on the scoreboard but were unsuccessful with four shots on goal.

“We actually created some great scoring opportunities,” O’Brien said. “But we fell short in our execution in the box.”

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Buhigas was credited with one save. Her counterpart, Nora Abolins, had three stops.

Linnell’s fifth goal on the year moved her into a tie for second place all-time with 10 career goals scored. She is tied with Kate Spellman who played from 2007-09.

The Lady Bisons begin Atlantic Sun Conference action Friday at Kennesaw State. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.

“With our nonconference season now complete, we are focused on things ahead,” O’Brien said. “We are prepared and excited to begin A-Sun conference play.”
