Liberty Powers Past Presbyterian College

LYNCHBURG, VA. - Blessing Tahuona scored a goal and Ernest Siaw netted his first career goal, as Liberty defeated the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, 3-1, in a Big South Conference men's soccer match at Osborne Stadium, Friday night. The contest was part of Homecoming Festivities at Liberty.

Liberty jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, thanks to an own goal and  a Siaw's goal.  Tahuona added his goal in the second half in the Flames' victory.

Liberty moves to 3-3 in Big South action and 7-5 overall.  The Flames have won three straight contests, scoring three goals in each match.  Presbyterian College drops to 1-4 in conference play and 3-9 overall.  The Blue Hose have lost three straight matches.

Liberty jumped onto the scoreboard with a goal in the 11th minute.  Midfielder Jonatan Torres moved the ball up the right side of the field, dropping a pass to forward Kyle Breitmeyer at the top of the 18-yard box.  Breitmeyer fed a pass to the far post for Tahuona, who ripped a shot which was put in by a Blue Hose defender for an own goal, giving the Flames, 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Tahuona came free again at the left post and fired a shot off the goalkeeper, which continued on towards the right corner of the net.  However, a Blue Hose defender ranged back and kicked it out, preventing the score.

The Flames added to their advantage with a goal in the 35th minute.  After a Presbyterian College corner kick, Tim Harbison sent a long clearing passed up the right side of the field, where Siaw step past a defender and picked up the ball in stride. One-on-one with the goalkeeper, Siaw ripped a shot into the right side of the net for his first goal in a Liberty uniform and a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Tahuona netted his marker during the 56th minute.  After receiving a pass from Breitmeyer, defender Sam Duininck sent a crossing pass from the far right side of the box to the left post.  Tahuona collected the pass and popped it into the upper right corner to give the Flames a 3-0 lead. The goal was Tahuona's third of the year.

The Blue Hose spoiled the shutout with a marker during the 83rd minute. Ignacio Monchetti sent a shot from the top of the box off the crossbar and collected the ricochet, scoring his fourth goal of the year.

Liberty held a 16-12 advantage over Presbyterian College in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. 

Goalkeeper Jeremy Lee made four saves for the Flames.  Tyler Beadle recorded three saves.  The Blue Hose also had one team save.

After going unbeaten in a stretch of three home games, Liberty travels to Raleigh, N.C., for a match with the N.C. State Wolfpack. Match time at Dali Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
