Marist Drops 1-0 Contest to Providence
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women’s soccer team (1-5) lost its final non-conference game of the season, falling to Providence 1-0 on Sept. 17 at Tenney Stadium.
The only goal of the game came at the 47:53 mark when Providence sophomore Rachel Ugolik fired a shot off a cross feed from junior Catherine Zimmerman. Ugolik’s second goal of the season improved the Friars’ overall mark to 3-3-2.
Freshman Ashley Houghton (Danbury, Conn.) made four saves in net for the Red Foxes, including a diving stop of a shot by Providence senior Lia Belizzi in 26th minute. Senior Amanda Epstein (Jericho, N.Y.) and sophomore Juliette Loccisano (Hauppauge, N.Y.) each registered a pair of shots.
Zimmerman and Belizzi had four shots each to contribute to Providence’s total of 16. Sophomore Kristyn Shea made two saves for the Friars in the shutout. Marist owned a 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
The Red Foxes open up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Sept. 21 with a game at 3 p.m. at Rider.
