October 6, 2018

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Marist midfielder Allen Gavilanes scored a pair of goals to lead the visiting Red Foxes over Siena Men's Soccer, 3-0, at the Siena Turf Field Saturday afternoon. The win dropped the Saints to 2-2 in MAAC action on the season, and propelled Marist to a 3-1 mark in conference play.

Siena (3-6-3, 2-2), welcomed 2017 Second Team All-MAAC and MAAC All-Rookie Team selection Alejandro Riquelme back to the lineup for his first action of 2018. The sophomore tallied a pair of shots in the loss, splitting with Tim Ugo for the most on the team in the affair.

Marist (4-4-2, 3-1), who improved to 3-1-2 in its last six matches, kept hold of the contest's pace throughout the afternoon, with Gavilanes breaking on to the scoreboard in the 26th minute with an unassisted effort, which he fired low and hard into the left side of the goal. The second half of play saw a pair of insurance scores for the Red Foxes, as Skylar Conway drilled a ball to the opposite corner of the net off a deflection in the 59th minute, and Gavilanes scored his second goal of the match four minutes later.

Marist held a 14-5 shot advantage in the affair, including a 6-2 lead in shots on-goal. The Saints doubled up on corner kicks, with Riquelme taking a pair, while the Red Foxes had just one.

Making his 12th consecutive start on the season, freshman goalkeeper Greg Monroe tallied three saves in the loss, while Marist net-minder Ryan Sinnott had a pair, with each keeper playing the duration of the match for their respective teams.

Siena will look to get back into the win column as their conference slate continues on the road next week. The Saints will travel to Hamden, Connecticut to face Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 2:30 p.m.
