Monmouth Clips Siena in Double Overtime

October 9, 2019

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women’s Soccer won’t be sad to see Lexie Palladino graduate. The Monmouth senior scored her fourth straight game-winning goal against the Saints as the Hawks emerged 1-0 in double overtime in a rematch of last year’s MAAC Championship Match at Siena Field.

Palladino, who previously netted game-winners for Monmouth (7-2-2, 5-0) in each of last season’s meetings with Siena (4-7-3, 2-2-1) as well as in the 2017 MAAC Semifinals, finished a centering feed in close from Sarina Jones in the 101st minute just 45 seconds into double overtime.

The Hawks held a 24-1 advantage in shots and an 8-0 margin in corners to win their sixth straight overall. Carrie Krohn recorded the lone shot attempt for the Saints, which was blocked away at the top of the 18 in the 56th minute.

Taylor Dorado was impressive in goal making seven saves to give Siena a chance. The defeat was just the Saints’ third spanning their past 18 overtime matches, as opposed to nine wins and six draws during that time.

Amanda Knaub didn’t need to make a save to tally her program record 37th career shutout for Monmouth which has now won 16 straight over MAAC opponents including 14 in a row in regular season action. The clean sheet was the seventh in 11 matches for the Hawks who entered play ranked third nationally in goals against average.

Siena returns to action Saturday when they host I-87 rival Marist at 1 p.m. at Siena Field.
