Niagara Shuts Out Saints
Laura Ortiz tallied three points and Emily Phillips added a goal as Niagara shut out Siena Women’s Soccer 2-0 in Western New York. Senior goalkeeper Liz Rogan made two saves for the Saints.
Niagara (5-3-2, 3-0) held a 13-2 edge in shots and a 5-3 margin in corners. Freshman midfielder Olivia Stegner accounted for the Saints’ (5-4-2, 1-2) lone shot on target in the 40th minute, and junior striker Andrea Pereira added a shot in the 69th minute.
Ortiz opened the scoring in the 38th minute, heading in a service from Hayley Besaw. Ortiz then set up Haillie Price who fed Phillips in the 66th minute for an insurance tally.
Claire Feiertag made one save to post the shutout for the Purple Eagles which have opened MAAC play with three consecutive wins.
The Saints return to action Saturday for their final regular season weekend home match when they host Monmouth at 1 p.m. Just prior to kickoff, the Saints will honor their seven seniors in a special Senior Day ceremony.
