Saints, Booth Blank Niagara
Taylor Booth and the Saints posted their third consecutive shutout as Siena Women’s Soccer won its first road match of the year, 1-0 at Niagara. Freshman back Tara Sobierajski scored the game-winning goal for the Saints.
Booth made four saves, extending both her and the Saints’ (7-5-1, 3-1-1) scoreless streak to 296 minutes. It marked the second straight season in which Booth has posted clean sheets in three consecutive contests.
Sobierajski gave Siena all the offense it needed, firing home a 25-yard blast top shelf in the 33rd minute. It was the third goal of her impressive rookie season and first collegiate game-winner.
Siena out-shot Niagara (4-10, 3-3) 12-11 and the Purple Eagles held a 7-5 advantage in corners in an evenly played match. Reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Claire Feiertag stopped three shots for Niagara.
The Saints face a stiff test Saturday when new MAAC member Monmouth travels to Loudonville for Siena’s Senior Day at 1 p.m. The Hawks are 10-1-1 on the season. Prior to the match, Siena will honor its six seniors in a special Senior Day ceremony.
