Siena Picked 3rd in MAAC Preseason Poll

LOUDONVILLE, NY - After a strong season in 2018 that saw the Siena Saints make a trip to the MAAC Championship game, the Green and Gold have been picked to finish third in the league as announced in the Preseason Coaches Poll Tuesday morning.

 

Monmouth and Quinnipiac placed first and second in front of the Saints in the Preseason Coaches' Poll with 121 points and 96 points overall. Monmouth also claimed all 11 first place votes in the poll after claiming the last two MAAC Championships.

 

Siena received 89 points overall after defeating both Quinnipiac and Marist in last year’s MAAC Tournament before falling to the eventual champions Monmouth in the MAAC Championship game. The Saints are followed by Marist (86) and Rider (81) in fourth and fifth, while Niagara (69) comes in at sixth, Fairfield (54) at seven, and Manhattan (50) eighth. Canisius (32), Iona (28) and Saint Peter's (20) round out the final three spots in the poll.

 

Monmouth's Madie Gibson earned the Preseason All-MAAC Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row. In total, seven Hawks were named to the Preseason All-MAAC team.

 

The 2019 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship takes place from November 3 to November 10. On Sunday, November 3, the No. 3 and 4 seeds will host the First Round, and No. 1 and 2 will host the Semifinals Thursday, November 7. The Highest Remaining Seed will host the Championship Game Sunday, November 10.

 

Senior and 2018 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Taylor Dorado will lead the Saints into the regular season, opening the year on Friday, August 23 at Air Force. The Green and Gold will appear at home for the first time on Thursday, September 5 at 4 p.m. when they play host to UMass.
