Stan State shuts out NDNU on road, improves
BELMONT — Daniel Kuczynski and Ryan Chaney scored for the Warriors while the defense and Russ Klabough shut-down the Argonauts as Stanislaus State blanked Notre Dame de Namur, 2-0, Saturday afternoon.
Chaney, a true freshman from Tracy's Kimball High School, has already scored twice in as many contests this season. His goal against NDNU was a header in the 82nd minute off of a great ball from Valentin Galan, Jr., that finally put the game away for the Warriors, which improved to 2-0 on the season for the first time since opening 3-0 in 2012.
Kuczynski's return to Stanislaus was felt in Thursday's match against Academy of Art, but he put one in the back of the net this time. His late first half goal, at 43:38, gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead going into halftime. He hit the shot to the back post after getting a pass from a Gerardo Cazares free kick. Kuczynski, who wore the Warrior red in 2011-2012, returned for his final collegiate season after spending time at the University of Vermont.
For Stanislaus, it was its fourth straight win over NDNU after going 0-4 in the teams first four meetings.
Defensively, the Warriors locked down and avoided NDNU attacks for much of the match. NDNU managed just two shots on goal — both picked up by Klabough, who has yet to allow a score other than the two penalty kicks made by Art U on Thursday.
Stan State out-shot NDNU 8-2 on goal.
The Warriors return home to play host to Simpson University at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. Stanislaus beat Simpson, 4-1, in Redding last Sept. 9.
