Vestal, N.Y. - Senior Berian Gobeil Cruz (Montreal, Quebec) scored in the 73rd minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Stony Brook men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Binghamton Wednesday in an important America East match. The win improves Stony Brook's record to 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in America East.

"Binghamton plays a very direct and physical style of soccer and they tried to disrupt us. But our guys did a good job reacting to that style and created two goals to give us the game."



Goal Recaps

• In the 14th minute, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tommy Moon, who lobbed the ball over SB senior goalkeeper Stefan Manz (Bronx, N.Y.).
• In the 41st minute, senior Kyle Schlesinger (Selden, N.Y.) had a free kick out wide near the corner flag. His kick reached the box to find a waiting senior Raphael Abreu (New York, N.Y.), who headed the ball into the top corner of the net for the goal.
• In the 73rd minute, the Seawolves strung together a series of strong passes that resulted in freshman Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) getting the ball at the top of the box. He flicked the ball over to Gobeil Cruz, who received the ball, took a touch and took a shot from 8-10 yards out that was hard and low to the ground. The ball went towards the goalkeeper's left and Binghamton's Stefan Frantelizzi dove too far, and the ball went underneath him and into the goal.

The Numbers Game

• Gobeil Cruz scored for the second consecutive match and now has 24 goals for his career.
• It was the second straight year Gobeil Cruz notched the game-winner against Binghamton.
• Abreu scored for the first time since Aug. 31, the 15th goal of his career. He now has three goals in his career vs. Binghamton.
• Schlesinger recorded the 10th assist of his career, placing him into the top 10 in program history.
• Manz made six saves in net.

News & Notes

• Stony Brook has now won four straight over Binghamton, dating back to 2009. Each of the last three meetings have ended with a 2-1 score.
• The Seawolves have tied the Bearcats for second place in the conference with four games remaining. SB is one point behind Vermont (2-0-1).
• Stony Brook is 4-1-1 in true road games this season and is unbeaten in its last four on the road.
