Table Is Set For MAAC Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The table is set for the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship. The Gaels enter postseason play as the number 10 seed and they'll take on seventh seeded Fairfield on day one of the Championships at 12:30 PM.

Earlier this season on Wednesday, Sept. 20, the Stags defeated the Maroon & Gold, 2-0.  It was the first MAAC loss of the season for Iona in its second league game.  Fairfield used early goals in both halves from junior Sara Plowman and freshman Liz Dumas its second win of the MAAC season at the time.  Iona outshot Fairfield in the game 17-12 with junior Mariana Jaramillo taking a game-high nine attempts.

Iona enters the postseason splitting its last four games.  The Gaels earned home one-goal wins against Quinnipiac and Saint Peter's while suffering setbacks on the road against Rider and Niagara.

The Stags enter the postseason with a 1-2-1 record over its last four games.  Fairfield took down Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Oct. 11, but then dropped a pair of 2-0 decisions against Manhattan and Monmouth before drawing against Marist to conclude the season.

Freshman Alex Madden is the offensive leader for the Fairfield Stags.  She leads the team and ranks tied for sixth in the MAAC with six goals this season.  She also has three game-winning goals, which ties for second most in the conference.

Jaramillo controls the offense for the Maroon & Gold.  Playing in the midfield, she has a team-high 57 shots and an average of 3.17 shots per game; both rank fourth in the MAAC.

In between the pipes, senior Tiffany Martinez has been tested al season and currently ranks number one in the conference with 117 saves.  She ranks second in saves per game a 6.5.  Fairfield's goalkeeper, junior Megan Defeo ranks fifth averaging 4.33 saves per game.

The last time that Iona went done to Florida for the MAAC Championship, the No. 3 seeded Gaels fell to No. 6 seeded Siena Saints, 2-1.

Kickoff between Iona and Fairfield is set for Saturday, Oct. 28 at 12:30 PM on Field 18 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
