North Carolina(w) standouts Lotte Wubben-Moy and Alessia Russo have announced that they are leaving the program ahead of what would've been their final seasons.
The English youth national team veterans each announced their decision on their respective social media accounts. The duo were each entering their fourth and final season at Chapel Hill.
Wubben-Moy made 62 appearances in three seasons, scoring six goals and adding 12 assists, playing predominantly as a center back. Russo, who had her 2018 season cut short due to a broken leg, scored 28 goals and setup nine more in 57 appearances for the ACC side. Both are likely to sign professional contracts in Europe.
While it remains possible that the ACC could still attempt to play competitive games in the fall, nothing is official at this time.
“It is rare, indeed, when you are doing exactly what you want to do, with exactly the people you want to do it with, in exactly the place you want to be. In life most people are happy when they get one right, and two is like heaven. Getting all three right can only happen at UNC”— Alessia Russo (@alessiarusso7) August 22, 2020
2/3 I never thought my senior year would end like this. This place is so special and Chapel Hill will hold a place in my heart forever. Moving here in 2017 to play for one of the most successful programmes in history and to study at such a prestigious university was by far the— Alessia Russo (@alessiarusso7) August 22, 2020
3/3 decision I have ever made. The memories and friendships will last a lifetime. With that being said, due to the uncertainty of the current situation I will be leaving UNC to continue my football journey elsewhere. I look forward to the next chapter. Chapel hill will be missed— Alessia Russo (@alessiarusso7) August 22, 2020
