BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following two more victories last week, three members of the Lehigh women's soccer team have garnered Patriot League weekly awards, as announced on Monday. Junior Alyssa Riporti was named Defensive Player of the Week, classmate Adrian Vitello received Midfielder of the Week honors while freshman Sam Miller garnered Goalkeeper of the Week recognition.

Vitello and Miller each won a weekly award for the second time in as many weeks. Miller has won a Patriot League award following every week so far this season, previously winning Rookie of the Week on Aug. 30 and Sept. 5.

Earning her first-career Patriot League weekly award, Riporti has been an anchor at center back for the only defense in the country that hasn't allowed a goal. The Mountain Hawks began last week by allowing just eight shots and just three shots on goal against Binghamton Friday. Lehigh did not allow a shot on goal in the second half as the Mountain Hawks broke open a scoreless game with two second-half goals. Lehigh earned another shutout at Villanova Sunday in a 2-0 victory, allowing just two second-half shots on goal against a Wildcats' team looking for the equalizer.

Overall, Riporti and the Mountain Hawks have shut-out their opponents for the first six games this season, a new school record for consecutive shutouts and consecutive shutouts to open a season (both five, from 2005). Lehigh's shutout streak has reached a school-record 633:57 dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Vitello has continued her strong play in the Lehigh midfield, playing a key role on both ends of the field. Along with contributing to Lehigh's defense as a defensive midfielder, Vitello scored the game's first goal (which proved to be the game-winner) at Villanova, her second goal of the season. Vitello's initial penalty kick was saved, but she converted the rebound at the 30:45 mark. For the season, Vitello is now second on the team with five points.

The backstop of Lehigh's defense has been Miller, who stopped all 12 shots sent her way last week and is now a perfect 29-for-29 in her collegiate career. She began with three saves against Binghamton, all coming in the first half. Miller was spectacular at Villanova, finishing with a career-high nine saves. Seven of those stops came in the first half, including four in the game's first 22 minutes to help the Mountain Hawks settle in and allow them to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Standing 5-0-1 on the season, Lehigh's five-game winning streak and six-game unbeaten streak are both its longest since the 2005 season. The Mountain Hawks have also scored multiple goals in five consecutive games for the first time since early in the 2010 season.

Lehigh now looks ahead to the beginning of Patriot League play on Saturday at Holy Cross. Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
