ATHENS, Ohio – The Niagara women’s soccer team was defeated by the Ohio University Bobcats, 1-0 in a non-conference matchup at the Chessa Field on Friday afternoon.

Ohio University’s senior Catherine Rogers scored off a free kick from 25-yards out in the 58th minute of play to give the Bobcats the victory with her fifth goal of the season.

After 45 minutes of play, the teams went into halftime scoreless.  The Purple Eagles (1-3-0) and Bobcats (3-3-0) came out firing in the opening half, but it was Ohio that had the advantage in shots, 16-7, as well as a three to two corner kick advantage.

Junior forward Breanna Catipovic led the Purple Eagles in shots with three, while rookie midfielder Kori Thorne added two of her own.

Freshman keeper Claire Feiertag finished the contest tying her season-high of six saves.

Niagara returns to the field on Sunday, Sept. 9 when they travel to Youngstown, Ohio to battle Youngstown State at 3 p.m.
