Women's Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Win Over SPU
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team held off Metro Atlantic Conference foe Saint Peter's, winning 2-1 on Oct. 18 in Tenney Stadium.
Marist fired the first eight shots of the second half before junior Jessica Fanelli (Kathonah, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the season from the right corner of the box in the 58th minute. Freshman Camille Bowen (Goshen, N.Y.) and sophomore Nicole Gerber (Woodbury, N.Y.) picked up the assists.
The Red Foxes took a two-goal lead on senior Amanda Epstein's (Jericho, N.Y.) second score of the season. Senior Jamie Strumwasser (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) fed Epstein in the middle before Epstein beat Peacocks' freshman goal keeper Lauren Solene in a race for the ball.
Saint Peter's (1-15, 1-6) got its lone goal from sophomore Ashley Drodz at the 84:33 mark and did not have a shot for the rest of the contest. Solene made nine saves in the loss.
Marist outshot the Peacocks 24-3, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. The Red Foxes also had five corner kicks compared to the Peacocks' one.
The Red Foxes (2-8-4, 1-3-3) will continue their home stand when they face Canisius at 1 p.m. Oct. 22.
