Fairfield senior star Madalyn Theriault is the women’s college soccer player of the week thanks to two standout performances accounting for all six goals the team managed.

The Preseason MAAC Player of the Year was on fire over the weekend. It began with one goal and one assist to defeat Boston University 2-1. Her dominance then hit another level against Vermont, as she needed just 30 minutes to score a hat trick and assist another goal in the 4-1 victory, capping off a stretch where she contributed to all six goals the Stags managed on the week.

Player of the Week:  Madalyn Theriault, Fairfield

Women’s Team of the Week: August 18-24

GK: Alina Santos, Denver - Santos had two stellar performances for the Pioneers, making eight saves in a clean sheet performance versus Baylor and another five in a 1-1 draw with Seattle.

D: Allyson Brown, Tennessee - The Volunteers continued their impressive defensive form, led by Brown, who played 180 minutes in two clean sheet defeats of No. 4 UCLA and Loyola Marymount.

D: Abby Graeser, UAB - Adding a creative flair to her defensive fortitude, Graeser provided three assists in a 5-0 defeat of Louisiana-Monroe.

D: Finley Lavin, Memphis - After having little to do in a 7-0 defeat of Kennesaw State, Lavin delivered her  best performance of the season, highlighted by a goal-line clearance in a stunning 1-0 victory over No. 12 Vanderbilt.

M: Summer Denigan, Georgia - Denigan took her game to another level this week, scoring three and assisting once as the Bulldogs defeated Michigan and No. 6 North Carolina.

M: Amelia Swinarski, Louisville - Louisville scored plenty over the week, and the freshman was a creative force with six assists split evenly between an 8-0 win over Detroit Mercy and a 7-2 defeat of Wright State.

M: Lia Godfrey, Virginia(w) - Godfrey put her free kick mastery on display with set-piece goals against Xavier and Liberty to lead a perfect period for the Cavaliers. 

M: Talia Sommer, Butler - The senior attacker scored one and assisted three as Butler defeated Illinois State and drew Purdue.

F: Maya Matesa, Duquesne - The Ohio native continued her scorching start to the year, recording a brace versus Saint Francis (Pa.), then following with a hat trick against Mercyhurst.

F: Hope Leyba, Colorado - A hat trick versus Fordham and a double against UNC Greensboro gave the junior forward five goals in just two games. 

F: Madalyn Theriault, Fairfield - Theriault did it all for Fairfield, having a hand in all six goals the Stags scored in two wins.
