HAMDEN, CT – The Iona College women’s soccer team battled its heart out battling down from a three goal deficit against Quinnipiac, but fell short of the second half comeback, 3-2.  Freshman Amber Crispin and senior Emily Hansen continued their excellent play with a pair of goals in the loss.

Senior Kelly Caruso gave Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead just 5:04 into the game.  Sophomore Nadya Gill was credited with the assist for her first of three points on the day.  The second year forward gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead in the 64^th minute with her seventh net-finder of the season.  Just four minutes later, freshman standout Ally Grunstein put Quinnipiac up by three.

Despite the wide margin, the Maroon & Gold did not give in.  Crispin got the Gaels on the board with her third of the season in the 69^th minute.  Hansen, the senior captain defensemen, registered the assist on the goal.  She then got Iona within one in the 82^nd minute when she buried a penalty kick chance.

The Gaels had one last shot to tie the game in the final minutes of the game when sophomore Sara Mangialardi put a shot on goal, forcing Bobcats freshman goaltender Olivia Myszewski to make her seventh and final save of the contest.

Crispin and Hansen combined for four of the Gaels nine shots on goal.  Sophomore Mariana Jaramillo had a team-high shot attempts.  Junior Tiffany Martinez made six saves in net.

Iona heads to the road on Saturday, Oct. 15 with a matchup against the Canisius College Golden Griffs.
