Boys national poll reflects Calif. movement

The first NSCAA boys high school winter rankings update of February is here, and Florida's Montverde is still riding on the wings of its hot finish in January. But a horde of national sides are pressing in from every direction.

Montverde finished its season weeks ago, so the Eagles have to hope their exploits keep fresh in the minds of the voters while much of the rest of the top 10 continues to fight through the playoffs. Flower Mound Marcus kept its position at No. 2 thanks to a 3-0-0 improvement from the last poll. The biggest mover was No. 3 Cathedral, which hopped into the poll for the first time this week. Cathedral is having a big week thanks to the commitment last week of future college stars Axel Mendez (UCSB) and Greg Salazar (UC Davis).

Boca Raton (No. 8) and Madison Central (No. 9) displaced former top 10 sides to make it into the poll this week alongside Cathedral.

1. Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) (21-0-1)

2. Marcus (Flower Mound, Texas) (11-0-0)

3. Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.) (19-1-1)

t4. Brother Martin (New Orleans, La.) (19-0-0)

t4. Oviedo (Oviedo, Fla.) (22-0-4)

6. Coppell (Coppell, Texas) (8-1-1)

7. Loyola (Los Angeles, Calif.) (21-0-5)

8. Boca Raton (Boca Raton, Fla.) (22-1-2)

9. Madison Central (Madison, Miss.) (22-1-2)

10. The Woodlands (The Woodlands, Texas) (10-0-1)
