Carmel girls grip NSCAA national No. 1
Carmel jumped five spots to take the No. 1 overall national girls high school ranking in Tuesday's most recent NSCAA poll. The Indiana school is off to a 4-0-0 start and jumped previous No. 1 South Side, which hasn't yet played a regular season game. Maria Carrillo, last season's end-of-fall No. 1, is tied with New Hampshire dynasty Exeter at No. 4.
Elsewhere, there were plenty of new faces in the top 25, as 10 schools made their first appearances of the season. West Virginia power Winfield led the pack by jumping from an unranked position to No. 17 on the merits of an 8-0-0 start. Good Counsel was one of the biggest movers after elbowing into the top 10 after starting the season No. 19, while Ohio power Walsh Jesuit also made a big move up the ladder to No. 12 after beginning the season No. 24.
