St. Benedict's finally loses grip on No. 1

Down goes St. Benedict's.

For the first time in 71 games, the Gray Bees lost last week. Salesianum got a goal in overtime for a 1-0 win over St. Benedict's, which had been the nation's year-end top fall boys team over the last two years and had been No. 1 all season. That triggered a massive shakeup at the top in this week's NSCAA boys national poll. St. Benedict's fell to No. 9 and Salesianum scooted up to No. 3.

The loss paved the way for California's Jesuit to ascend to the nation's top spot, the first time a fall boys team other than St. Benedict's has occupied that position in some time. Despite that seismic shift, it was all fairly contained - no team dropped out of the top 10 from a week ago.
