Cathedral also edged Gulliver Prep (Fla.) in a shootout in the first round at MAST.

The win made San Ramon Valley, which had three runner-up finishes in the past six years, the section champ for the first time since 2002. |

But the Spartans went 14-0-3 in its last 17 matches, which included a City Section title win over Fremont and SCR wins over Bellflower, La Costa Canyon and Servite -- all teams that spent time in the SIMA FAB 50 this season. |
