FAB 50 High School Soccer Team Rankings

The winter high school season includes the following states: Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The rankings are compiled by high school rankings editor Sheldon Shealer.

Francisco Segura, Giovani Garcia and Wilmar Aguila scored the goals as LEE edged Sam Houston 3-2 in overtime to capture one of the division titles at the North Texas Elite Showcase. Leading up to the final, LEE needed to shootout wins, including one over Bellarmine Prep (Calif.)
2 (2) Alief Elsik Houston, TX 4-0-0
To no surprise, Edgar Renteria and Mayno Linares had big performances as Elsik won all four of its matches to claim the Pearland/Pasadena Cup title. In the final, Renteria scored four goals and had an assist; Linares had four assists during a win over Ridge Point. Linares also had a ha trick in the opening game of the tournament.
3 (3) St. Paul's Covington, LA 18-0-0
St. Paul's positioned itself for a serious run at No. 1 following a 5-1 victory over Tampa Jesuit (Fla.) in the Tampa Bay Invitational final. The Wolves also defeated Lakewood Ranch (Fla.) 3-1 to start the event and edged Naples (Fla.) in a shootout following a 1-1 match.

Wakeland Frisco, TX 4-0-0
Marlon Williams scored four goals in four matches as Wakeland opened the season with a perfect showing at the Frisco ISD Invitational. The Wolverines edged Dripping Springs 1-0 in the final.

After being humbled by Berkeley in the playoffs last season, Montgomery got a bit of revenge with a 4-1 win over Berkeley last week.

UC Irvine commit Jake Means scored three goals and had three assists last week as Simi Valley posted wins over Canyon and El Camino Real.

Marcus Flower Mound, TX 3-0-0
Tomas Pondeca scored twice and Sam Coad added a goal as Marcus defeated Servite (Calif.) 3-1 in a bracket final at the North Texas Elite Showcase.
10 (10) Bellarmine Prep San Jose, CA 5-1-0
Bellarmine pushed top-ranked LEE (Texas) to a shootout before falling in a North Texas Elite Showcase bracket semifinal. The Bells bounced back to end the tournament with a win over regionally ranked Coppell (Texas).

De La Salle defeated Heritage 3-1 last week in the team's only outing. The Spartans start league play this week against regionally ranked San Ramon Valley.

Sam Houston finished as the runner-up to top-ranked LEE at the North Texas Elite Showcase, falling 3-2 in overtime. SMU signee Jose Ortiz scored 13 goals during the three matches, including seven during the Texans' 8-0 win over Jackson Prep (Miss.).

Mater Dei was upset by Los Alamitos in the SoCal High School Classic final 1-0. The loss was the first of the year for Mater Dei, and the win allowed Los Alamitos to get back to a .500 record.

San Clemente San Clemente, CA 14-1-1
San Clemente defeated SIMA FAB 50-ranked Paramount in the SoCal High School Classic consolation match. The Triton then took their first loss of the season against Palos Verdes when the varsity team was split in order to play two matches in the same day.

Santa Barbara Santa Barbara, CA 11-1-2
Santa Barbara defeated Camarillo 4-0 in the team's only outing last week. The Dons open league play this week against Santa Ynez.
18 Lewisville Lewisville, TX 3-0-0
Lewisville opened the North Texas Elite Showcase with a victory over Southlake Carroll, but then opted to move into the consolation bracket in order to play on its home field the balance of the event. Lewisville and Southlake Carroll both won their remaining matches to secure spots in the Top 25 this week.

Millikan Long Beach, CA 13-1-2
Longtime coach Rod Petkovic, who has more than 700 wins, announced his retirement at the end of the season, and so far Millikan has responded with a stellar season. The lone loss on the record was a shootout as the Rams have yet to be defeated in a regulation match.

Southlake Carroll Southlake, TX 2-1-0
After losing to Lewisville in the opening round, Southlake Carroll defeated Central Catholic in the second round and Grand Prairie in the championship -- both by 3-2 margin.

Grand Prairie Grand Prairie, TX 2-1-0
Grand Prairie lost to Southlake Carroll 3-2 in the bracket final at the North Texas Elite Showcase. The Gophers started the event with a 3-1 win over Arlington Lamar. Renzo Osadurek scored the lone goal as Grand Prairie edged Harvard-Westlake (Calif.) 1-0 to reach the final.

Naples Naples, FL 11-1-1
Naples was knocked from the unbeatens with a shootout loss to SIMA FAB 50 No. 3 St. Paul's in the Tampa Bay Invitational semifinals. Naples then defeated No. 26 Cathedral (Calif.) in the consolation match. The showing, however, validated a move up in the rankings for this Florida-South program.

For the second year in a row, Central Catholic opened the North Texas Elite Showcase with a 6-4 victory -- this time over Lake Dallas. The Buttons lost to Southlake Carroll in the semifinals, but defeated Harvard-Westlake (Calif.) 4-2 in the third-place match. Jose Gallegos scored three goals against Harvard-Westlake. Daveen Mazaheri had three in the opener against Lake Dallas.

Matt Stewart, Vicente Garcia and Tommy Murray scored goals as Seven Lakes opened the season with a 3-0 win over Stratford.
25 Tampa Jesuit Tampa, FL 13-2-1
Tampa Jesuit defeated FAB 50 No. 26 Cathedral (Calif.) on a last-minute goal in the semifinals, but lost to No. 3 St. Paul's (La.) in the Tampa Bay Invitational final.
